Terms of Service

Effective September 25, 2026 Version 1.0 Governing law India

The rules for using Janaḥ, a platform for reporting civic grievances and engaging with your local community in India.

1Accepting these terms

By creating an account or using Janaḥ (the “App”), you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy Policy and Community Guidelines. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

You must be at least 18 years old, or have a parent or legal guardian’s consent where the law allows it, to use Janaḥ.

2What Janaḥ is

Janaḥ is a civic platform where residents report local problems, support each other’s reports, follow their progress and take part in neighbourhood communities. Janaḥ is not a government service. Reports are shared with the public and, where the relevant authority is connected to Janaḥ, with that authority, but we cannot promise that any issue will be resolved.

Janaḥ is not an emergency service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 112 (or the relevant emergency number) first.

3Your account

4What you post

You own what you post. You give Janaḥ a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display, translate, share and promote your content within the App and on janah.in so that the service can work, including showing your report to neighbours and to the responsible authority. This licence ends when you delete the content, except where copies are needed for legal, safety or audit reasons or others have already shared it.

You promise that you have the right to post what you post, and that it is accurate to the best of your knowledge. Photos and videos you attach should show the issue itself. Please do not include people’s faces, vehicle numbers or private documents unless they are essential to the issue.

As required by the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, complaints about content can be sent to our Grievance Officer at privacy@janah.in. We acknowledge complaints within 24 hours and aim to resolve them within 15 days.

7Communities

Anyone can start a community. The person who starts it is its President and is responsible for how it is run, including the roles and permissions they give to other members. Community rules cannot override these terms. Janaḥ can remove or lock a community that is unsafe, impersonates an authority or repeatedly breaks the rules.

How we collect and use personal data is described in the Privacy Policy. You can ask to access, correct or delete your data, or withdraw consent, under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, by writing to privacy@janah.in.

9Changes, suspension and ending your account

We may update the App and these terms. If a change is material we will tell you in the App before it applies. You can delete your account at any time from Settings or by writing to us. We may suspend or end access for serious or repeated breaches, or if the law requires it.

10Liability

Janaḥ is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for content posted by users, for actions or inaction by any authority, or for interruptions outside our reasonable control. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer.
